Other Teak Furniture

Teak can be used for all kinds of furniture.

Not only is teak commonly used for bathroom mats and other bathroom accessories, but it is also used for other types of furniture.

Teak, a tropical birch hardwood, contains special oils in the heartwood that act as an excellent waterproofing agent.  This effect is so strong, teak lumber, and therefore, furniture constructed of teak, will not rot or mold, even if left out in the elements.

This special oil also acts as a natural insect repellent, making teak wood termite-proof.  This also contributes heavily to the use of teak for furniture, as it can be left outside without fear of termite or other insect deterioration.

The fibers of teak wood are dense and very closely knit.  This results in lumber that is both extremely flexible and very strong.  Teak wood is durable and resistant to damage because it has the ability to flex under heavy pressure rather than crack or break.  Because of these properties, teak is often used to produce outdoor furniture and other load-bearing pieces.

The natural oils in the wood also give teak wood an extremely luxurious appearance.  The natural shine and lustrous look make it pleasing to the eye, in addition to its desirable structural properties.  Teak is often used in high-life, luxury homes, apartments, and often on cruise ships and yachts.  In fact, many yachts feature complete teak flooring because of its waterproof nature.
